I Don’t Want

I don’t want any more of your lies
‘Cause all I ever end up is grieving
And I don’t want any more of those pretend goodbyes
Just tell me now you’re forever leaving

And I don’t want any more of those tender moments
Where you make promises you don’t intend to keep
You’re gonna change, you’ve been reborn are sure to torment
They’re just words soon to crumble in a heap

And I don’t want any more of your time
‘Cause my time is fleeting fast
To the truth so long I have been blind
And to the games you’ve been playing in the past

Refrain
All I want is for you to be gone
I never knew I could be this strong
And all I want is to fall in love again
‘Cause you’re a leopard, your spots will never change

I don’t want to have to reconsider
All the things I have told you and instead
Watch my resistance begin to wither
As we kiss and fall into bed

Repeat Refrain

I don’t want any more of your misbehavin’
And those bad habits you reach out to grasp
Your eyes are painted, your legs are shaven
Already the dye is cast

Repeat Refrain

Natalie’s Arms

Well, it’s been quite a week, it’s been hell so to speak
The boss has been driving us nuts
She’s been saying we’re all lazy, just making her crazy
And she’s been verbally kicking our butts
Well, friend I ain’t blind and I know when it’s time
No one ever had to tell me twice
So when I pick up my check think I’ll say what the heck
Sweetheart it’s sure been real nice

And a factory job ain’t no gift from God
If it only pays meals and the rent
‘Cause at the end of the week you more than just squeak
And your back is so horribly bent
And staying alive tests the will to survive
Does it even pay to get out of bed
At the end of your rope don’t you ever give up hope
“Cause they’re may be blue skies straight ahead

Refrain
And what keeps me going is certainly knowing
There’s a place you can kick up your heels
Where the girls and the guys are all making eyes
And you never know just what’s real
And a couple of beer can spread lots of cheer
As you’re dreaming of all of her charms
‘Cause it’s Saturday night and if everything’s right
I’ll end up in Natalie’s arms

Well, it’s good for your health if you’re born into wealth
If the good life comes in to force
Yes, it’s a heck of a gig when your wallet’s so big
That the bills there would choke any horse
And it’s a special ol’ world when you’re Daddy’s little girl
Daddy is the company president
But through all of these years there’s been blood sweat and tears
Making every dime that I’ve spent

Love of a Good Woman

Used to chase the pot of gold
Rainbows end I was told
That’s all there is to have, to hold
I just went along

Used to follow all the lies
Then one day to my surprise
Was all alone, tears in my eyes
I knew then I was wrong

Refrain
For those who seek to rule the meek
For tyrants one and all
For those whose game is chasing fame
You’re all bound to rise to fall
Seasons come and seasons change
One truth always remains
What riches bring don’t mean a thing
Without the love of a good woman
What riches bring don’t mean a thing
Without the love of a good woman

Used to want to be the star
That shines the brightest from afar
But it don’t matter who you are
You can be blinded by the lights
Should of known right from the start
Bring a lady into your heart
If she believes you’ll never part
Everything’s gonna be alright

Repeat Refrain (2x)

In Your Bed

I know there’s gonna be some times when you’re running
Hard and fast around in my head
I know there’s gonna be a day that is coming
When I’ll want to be with you instead
Of chasing dreams and chasing stars
And watching shadows in the night
I’ll be wondering how you are
Longing to hold you tight

I know there’s gonna be some second guessing
On my part for what I leave behind
I know there’s gonna be some self-confessing
Maybe I’m guilty of being blind
To the boundless vanities of man
Or to what I’m really looking for
But it is what it is and I am what I am
A wandering troubadour

In this life there’ll be some hard choices
To be made of this you can be sure
Other hearts and other voices
Are left abandoned, feeling insecure
And there’s no good reason for me to be gone
But the morning may leave you with tears in your eyes
This restless spirit moves me on
As night must fall and sun rise

Well, there may come a time when it hits you like a glove
All the while I was surely tryin’
And it was never that I fell out of love
I just merely ran out of time
And I don’t know where I’ll find my next caress
And I don’t know where I’ll lay my weary head
All I know is that this life has been blessed
‘Cause I sometimes lay down in your bed

I don’t know where I’ll find my next caress
And I don’t know where I’ll lay my weary head
All I know is that this life has been blessed
‘Cause I sometimes lay down in your bed

Melancholy Maiden

The melancholy maiden is in the arms of a lover
In the arms of someone whose heart she won’t keep
Enwrapped in her sorrow, and no way to recover
In the silence and darkness she slips off to sleep

Well, there once was a time, and there once was a season
And there once was a reason for romance in the air
Such an innocent child who came to believin’
That love had been found with the touch of her hair

And they danced in the meadow, and they danced in the forest
And they danced in the valley below for awhile
And they gazed at the starlight, the moonlight, the shadows
And he stole her heart with a song and a smile

Refrain
But was it the words that were left unspoken
In the nights when the stage lights didn’t shine on his face
Was it the promises offered then broken
That left her in sadness, and just to fall in disgrace

Now that crazy young cowboy is still high in the saddle
And chasing a dream that he may never own
Heading west to the sunset with the wind on his flat top
And riding the range and singing his song

Ah, but the melancholy maiden is on a road she calls freedom
She’s been on that road for such a long time
Where the loving ain’t something that can set the heart weeping
And the parting ain’t something that weighs heavy on the mind

Repeat Refrain

As the night time comes calling, in the arms of a lover
In the arms of someone whose heart she won’t keep
The melancholy maiden pulls up the covers
In the silence and darkness she slips off to sleep
In the silence and darkness she slips off to sleep

The Ladies Are Dancing Tonight

Some come with tresses in ribbons and bows
And some in laced satin right down to their toes
And some are so dainty in strawberry white
The ladies are dancing tonight

Well, there’s Mindy and Laurie, there’s Karen and Nicole
And Kristen, the soon-to-be belle of the ball
And Nicky, so witty and such a delight
And the ladies are dancing tonight

Refrain
‘Round and around and around they all twirl
Ever so coy - and like shy little girls
They’re laughing and tittering, maybe stealing a glance
As they dance, as they dance

Oh, the night has been roused by the scent of perfumes
And the smiles of young ladies that light up the room
And they’re casting a spell on all suitors in sight
And the ladies are dancing tonight

Repeat Refrain

Oh, the night has been roused by the scent of perfumes
And the smiles of young ladies that light up the room
And they’re casting a spell on all suitors in sight
And the ladies are dancing, dancing and dancing
The ladies are dancing tonight

‘Cause We Can Walk

He was a learned wanderer, traveled town to town
He had a reason
And on His robe of white were the seeds of man
For sand was the season
Called Himself redeemer, said He had a word
About creation
And He talked of a place far away
And how man could touch salvation
They nailed Him high
They thought He’d lied

Refrain
I tell you friend it is time we all realize
‘Cause we can walk - that don’t make us dancers
Don’t believe what you hold as truth is not a lie
And in the words you talk are all the answers

She walked by the river in the morning
She spent her nights alone
They said she was a lady of December
And that her heart was carved from stone
But long ago a lover man there came
Ah, she thought she was his chosen
Well, he left her with a heart that’s long been hardened
And a soul that’s long been frozen
When she found he’d lied
She died inside

All in the Name of Love

He’s looking good - the best I’ve ever seen
Loves the sound of his voice and the smell of green
He can’t help himself as he stands there and preens
It’s all in the name of love

I’d seen it coming with that look in her eye
She held my hand and she said goodbye
But you ain’t livin’ if you haven’t died
All in the name of love

And the hands have been counted, they’ve sown the seed
Now it’s off to the country club - there’s billfolds to feed
But it’s OK just for you and I to bleed
It’s all in the name of love

Refrain
Strike up the band, let your banner unfurl
Cue the piper, see the highlanders twirl
And pay the price whatever the cost
One more victory and all is lost

Some may rage some may debate
But you’ve read the Scripture, you know your fate
‘Cause they’ve burned their bridges and they’ve sanctified hate
All in the name of love

And the pavement princess has lost her style
And the lonely widow has gone all wild
And the mortal mother has abandoned child
It’s all in the name of love

And he’s smiling hard as his voice gets higher
He’s talking fast, his pants are on fire
We know he’s just another gun for hire
It’s all in the name of love

Repeat Refrain

She’s standing there with her eyes still smokin’
Her teeth are clenched, no words are now spoken
But your body aches and your bones are broken
All in the name of love

Better to Run to the Devil

At a tavern on a Saturday night she stepped on inside
Took a seat at the bar
And you could tell from the look on her face she was sure out of place
Half as lost as a child
>From across the dimly lit room the smell of perfume
Hit him right ’tween the eyes
And with another bottle of beer he turned back the fear
And walked over and smiled

Refrain

And it was plain in the sad situation
They were playing their part to a fault
>From a glance to a chance conversation
To a dance of the Tennessee Waltz
Some may say that their hearts were so evil
Passions worse than a crime
But it was better to run to the devil
Than to head back to lonesome this time

‘Round midnight they slipped from the bar took a drive in his car
To a place out of town
(Where they walked hand in hand to a late one night stand
In the cool of the night)
To a rented motel room where the light of the moon
Hit the shades that were down
And the stars that danced in the skies were all telling lies
That would make it so right

What I’m Wondering Tonight

They say the summer sky will soon be here
And these clouds and rain are gonna disappear
Still I’ll be all alone with thoughts of you, I hope you’ve been alright
That’s what I’m wondering tonight

And does your golden hair still cascade down
And does health and happiness abound
And every day do you get to break out those pearly whites
That’s what I’m wondering tonight

Refrain

Did you ever catch the Northern Lights along the way
Did you ever make it out to good ol’ California
Are you raising up a family, some dreams of yours take flight
That’s what I’m wondering tonight

And does my memory ever cross your mind
Or have I vanished in to the mists of time
Am I buried long in the past never to see the light
That’s what I’m wondering tonight

Repeat Refrain

If I could only turn back the hands of time
To when I was yours and you were mine
Could I ever take that wrong and somehow make it right
That’s what I’m wondering tonight

Repeat Refrain (2x)

Another Dusty Road

The wind is on your sail
Your silhouette is getting pale
While your shadow stays around me so it seems
And though my heart is badly bent
I still have my sentiments
I can reach back to in case I want to dream

And your time is not mine now
It never was anyhow
And you hardly had the chance to catch my name
Well, have you evened up some score
Maybe totaled even more
Than you did when you played your last game

Refrain
And I’m an older and bitter man
Trying hard to understand
Did you think my heart was made of sand and gravel
Well, you wandered through my time
And like those trails you left behind
I’m just another dusty road you have traveled

On your roads please beware
Of some stranger waiting there
Who might profit should you drink from his cup
For your leaves are turning brown
They may soon fall to the ground
There’ll be no one there to help you pick them up

Repeat Refrain

Some cold and windy night
When there ain’t a soul in sight
To comfort you and keep your body warm
Ah, from the shadows of your mind
You just may recall the time
These arms would give you shelter from the storm

Repeat Refrain (3x)

A Place in this Heart

Refrain
There’s a place in this heart for you
Forever and ever it’s true
‘Cause your love has come shining through
There’s a place in this heart for you

Now is the time in my life for love
That’s true as stars that shine above
Yes your sweet caress has set me free
>From these chains of heartbreak around me

Repeat Refrain

And such joy in this world for you and me
As we walk hand in hand to eternity
Just lovers whose hearts will beat as one
And sharing dreams of things to come

Repeat Refrain

Well, some day when the years have turned to gold
We’ll still have one another to hold
And at night we’ll lay down our weary heads
Oh, and remember the words that we once said

Repeat Refrain (3x)
